2009 Step Sparring Syllabus
STEP SPARRING REQUIREMENTS
All senior ranks need to know and be able to perform the junior syllabus along with their new material.
Unless specified, when asked to perform a particular type of step sparring, the student should execute a minimum of three of the required type. For example, at blue belt the student should be prepared to perform a minimum of three 3 steps, three 2 steps and three 1 steps at grading.

Measure: Walking, half foot overlap
Attack: Low front snap kick, walking stance
Defence: Walking stance low outer forearm
Counterattack: Reverse punch
Three
Measure: L stance, middle of feet
Attack: Side front snap kick, L stance
Defence: L stance forearm guarding
Counterattack: Front leg middle side piercing
Four
Measure: Walking, heel to heel
Attack: Walking stance high punch
Defence: Walking stance rising block
Counterattack: Reverse punch, front leg turning kick

Eight
Measure: Walking, heel to heel
Attack: Walking stance twin high vertical punch
Defence: Walking stance wedging block
Counterattack: Shift front foot into L stance downward back fist, low stance flat reverse fingertip thrust
Nine
Measure: Walking half overlap left foot
Attack: Low side piercing kick, L stance
Defence: Walking stance low outer forearm
Counterattack: Fixed stance side punch with front fist, middle side kick
TWO STEPS
One
Attacks: High turning kick – L stance knifehand strike
Defence: High outer forearm – Walking stance reverse block with the inner forearm block
Counterattack: Fixed stance side punch
Two
Attacks: Fixed stance side punch – middle side piercing kick
Defence: L stance, middle inner forearm block – walking stance circular block (inward inner forearm)
Counterattack: High turning kick
Three
Attacks: Reverse turning kick – Walking stance backfist
Defence: Walking stance double forearm block - L Stance knifehand block
Counterattack: Front elbow strike
Four
Attacks: Twisting kick – Jumping spinning midair knifehand strike
Defence: Walking stance left low outer forearm block – jumping L stance forearm guarding block
Counterattack: Jumping turning kick, close stance angle punch
ONE STEPS
One
Attack: Walking stance middle punch
Counterattack: Flying away side piercing kick
Two
Attack: Walking stance downward knifehand strike
Block: Walking stance rising block
Counterattack: Knifehand strike to ribs, low upset punch
Three
Attack: Front snap kick
Block: Side checking kick
Counterattack: Side piercing kick
Four
Attack: 180 reverse turning kick
Block: Bending ready stance
Counterattack: Hooking kick, knifehand strike
SEMI-FREE SPAR No. 1
1) = Student No. 1 who initiates the step by attacking
2) = Student No. 2 who completes the step with the final counterattack
1) Attack: Walking stance, high punch
2) Block: Walking stance, rising block
2) Attack: L-stance, outward knifehand strike
1) Block: L stance, knifehand guarding
1) Attack: Reverse turning kick
2) Block: Walking stance, double forearm
2) Attack: Front snap kick
1) Block: Walking stance pressing block with x fist
1) Attack: Walking stance, high punch with a twin vertical fist
2) Block: Walking stance, wedging block
2) Counterattack: Jumping back piercing kick flying away
